IDEA laws are the only parentally enforced federal laws on the books. We set up an entire system of laws to ensure children have their needs met by schools but we failed to set up any type of independent enforcement mechanism beside an often overwhelmed and outmatched mother who desperately wants to believe the school and the educators in the school are their to help her child. Kids with learning disabilities are expensive. School budgets are stretched thin. Teacher and admin salaries will be paid before any specialized services are considered. I have seen the education system harm children to save money. There is a huge gap between what children need to be successful in school and what schools actually provide. I intend to place the focus in schools back on the children and the core function society expects from their schools- educating all children in all core areas. All children deserve an education that meets there needs and sets them up for the future.
